Wound Care & Residential Senior Care — Hampton Roads, VA
Understanding Wound Care in a Residential Care Setting
Wound care is one of the most common questions families ask when considering a residential care home. This page explains what wound care involves, what residential care homes in Virginia are and are not licensed to provide, and how we coordinate with licensed providers to support residents with wound care needs.
What We Provide
Virginia residential care homes are not licensed to provide skilled nursing procedures, including wound care that requires a licensed nurse to perform or supervise. The following describes how we support residents with wound care needs within our licensing scope.
RN oversight and monitoring
Our founding Registered Nurse monitors residents for skin integrity changes, early signs of pressure injury, and wound-related health changes. Early recognition is one of the most valuable contributions a nurse makes in a residential setting.
Coordination with licensed home health agencies
When a resident requires skilled wound care — dressing changes, debridement, or wound assessment by a licensed nurse — we coordinate with licensed home health agencies who can provide those services in our home.
Preventive skin care protocols
Our care plans include preventive skin care protocols — repositioning schedules, moisture management, nutrition support — designed to reduce the risk of pressure injuries and skin breakdown.
Communication with physicians and specialists
Our RN communicates directly with physicians and wound care specialists when concerns arise, ensuring that care orders are followed and that families are kept informed.
Honest About Our Limits
We do not perform skilled wound care procedures in-house. Virginia residential care homes are not licensed to provide skilled nursing services, and we do not represent otherwise.
If a prospective resident's wound care needs require on-site skilled nursing — complex wound management, negative pressure wound therapy, or similar — we will tell you honestly that a skilled nursing facility or a home health agency providing daily skilled visits may be a better fit.
We would rather give you an honest answer than accept a resident we cannot safely serve.
